EXPLORING ONE OF LONDON’S MOST BEAUTIFUL AREAS
When I first left Notting Hill Gate tube station many years ago, I was kind of disappointed… Massive traffic, cheap souvenir shops and crowds of tourists (only worse around Oxford Circus and Covent Garden) didn’t meet my expectations of the charming area which I had on my mind after watching the film „Notting Hill“ (how many times have you seen it?)
Just walk on a few metres towards Kensington Park Road and you feel you are in a completely different world.
From icecream coloured houses with matching cars, cutes little shops to fantastic restaurants where you will find a lot more locals than tourists around the lively area of Westbourne Grove to the most beautiful white buildings in the adjacent residential areas.

SLOANE SQUARE, BELGRAVIA
Anlässlich der Chelsea Slower Show (über die ich in meinem letzten Post berichtet habe), dekorieren unzählige Geschäfte und Cafés in dieser Gegend ihre Eingangsbereiche derart schön, dass sie mittlerweile zu einer eigenen Attraktion geworden sind! Das Motto direkt am Sloane Square war dieses dieses Jahr „Jungle“ und seht selbst, wie kreaktiv die Gärtner hier waren.
On the occasion of the Chelsea Flower Show (see my post here) you can visit the most creative floral decorations at the entrances of shops and cafés which meanwhile became an attraction outside the real flower exhibition. This year’s jungle theme was incredibly creative!
RECOMMENDATION: APRIL’S CAFÉ NEAR SLOANE SQUARE
Eine kleine Oase, die ich durch Zufall in der Nähe des Sloane Squares entdeckt habe. Eigentlich wollte ich wieder ins Café Prestat, dessen Terrassenplätze aber alle besetzt waren und ich an diesem schönen Tag nicht drinnen sitzen wollte. Etwa 100m weiter – direkt neben Granger & Co (ein Restaurant, das ich aus Notting Hill kenne, sah ich einen üppig bewachsenen Palmengarten, der über eine Treppe nach unten zu erreichen war. Dort in der Ecke (wirklich sehr versteckt) befindet sich das Café, das zu einer Boutique gehört. Und dort gönnte ich mir dieses Riesenstück Schokoladenkuchen, obwohl ich eigentlich nicht so auf Süßes stehe 😉 Dazu Kaffee und ein Glas Rosé – einfach himmlisch!!
Durch die Boutique bin ich anschließend auch geschlendert, aber die Preise waren leider weit jenseits meines Budgets… daher nächstes Mal lieber noch ein Glas Wein!
By coincidence I discovered April’s Café located in an almost tropical oasis. Since all seats outside of Café Prestat next to Sloane Square were taken (and I didn’t want to sit inside on this lovely day), I walked a little bit further and found this cute café. Right next to Granger & Co (a restaurant which I have been to in Notting Hill) I got a lovely table and the best chocolate cake (although I don’t really have a sweet tooth!) together with a cup of coffee and a nice glass of rosé wine. Perfect finish of my walk around the city!
BTW, the boutique which belongs to the café – called Boutique 1 – was exceeding my budget by far… I’d rather go for another glass of wine next time!
